Pen Refill Guide
Every pen we make uses standard off-the-shelf ink refills.
We really love the OHTO refills but there are a lot of great and fun refills available. It’s always fun to try out new and different color refills. Find some of our recommendations below.

BLANK FORCES Refill Recommendations
These are the refills we enjoy using, plus the ones the pen and EDC communities keep coming back to.
The D1 Refills - Fits all of our pens except the INJECTOR
| D1 Refill | Ink | Why we like it |
|---|---|---|
| OHTO R-4C7NP | 0.7mm oil-based | What ships in every CHROMA, and what we've used in our own pens for years. One of the very few needlepoint D1s. Black or blue. |
| Uni Jetstream SXR-200 | Hybrid | The best-regarded low-viscosity D1 there is. Same ink as the full-size Jetstream, in miniature. |
| Pilot Hi-Tec-C Slims (multi pen refill) | 0.3 or 0.4mm gel | The finest line you can get in a D1. Buy the Slims multi pen refill — the standard Hi-Tec-C and the Slim Knock (LHSRF-8C) are different sizes and will not fit. |
| Monteverde Soft Roll Mini (D13) | Medium ballpoint | Ten colors — purple, orange, turquoise and pink among them. If you want to get away from black, start here. Buy the Mini: Monteverde's Parker-style Soft Roll shares the name but won't fit. |
| Schmidt 635 Mini | Ballpoint | German-made, smooth and dark, with a nickel silver tip. A ballpoint that behaves like one, in the best sense. |
| Kaweco D1 | 0.8, 1.0 or 1.2mm ballpoint | If you like a bolder line than most D1s offer, this is where to look. |

G2 vs. G2 — Why "G2" Means Two Different Things
This causes more confusion than anything else about refills, so it's worth settling first.
Parker-style, also sold as G2 international, is a format — a standard shape and size defined by ISO 12757-2, roughly 98mm long. Dozens of manufacturers build to it. Our INJECTOR takes this format, and the OHTO Flash Dry we ship measures 98.4mm.
Then for some reason the company Pilot decided to call one of their pens the G2. So the Pilot G2 is a pen, and the gel refill that goes in it. It's a different length, a different shape, and it will not fit a Parker-style pen.
The two share a name and nothing else. If a listing just says "G2 refill," check the length before you buy.
| Parker-Style Refill | Ink | Why we like it |
|---|---|---|
| OHTO Flash Dry Gel PG-105NP | 0.5mm gel | What ships in every INJECTOR. Needle tip, dries fast, and OHTO recommends it for left-handed writers. |
| Schmidt easyFLOW 9000 | Hybrid | The smooth one. Hybrid ink lays down a dark line with very little drag. |
| Uni-ball Jetstream SXR-600 | Hybrid | Routinely called the best ballpoint refill made. Glides more than a ballpoint has any right to. |
| Fisher Space Pen PR | Pressurized ballpoint | Writes upside down, in the cold, and on damp paper. Comes with an adapter. The one for a pen that lives in a pack. |
| Monteverde Soft Roll | Ballpoint | Widely stocked and available in more colors than most. |
