THE TANTO BLADE SHAPE

Tantō  (短刀, "short sword") The word Tantō in Japanese means ‘short sword'. The POCKET TANTO was inspired by these ancient Japanese blade shapes, including the Katana which is the full-length sword. The original tantō blades were carried by the Samurai warriors. I've modified the shape so that it works best for modern everyday needs, and the angles and faceted faces of the blade have a unique and timeless appeal.

The Pocket Tanto's design was inspired by the Japanese blades carried by the Samurai warriors.

USEFUL POINTY TIP - Very precise tip is great for poking and prodding.

BEVELED FRONT EDGE - Fantastic for scraping and lifting edges.

THIN BLADE PROFILE - Makes cutting and slicing easier.

BLADE CUT OUT - The cutout in the blade reduces the overall weight of the knife while also providing an easy way to open the blade with two hands.

PREMIUM MATERIALS & TECHNOLOGY

Your POCKET TANTO is made using only the highest quality materials. It is precision CNC machined from solid Grade 5 Titanium (6Al-4V), and the blade is made from the ultra-premium Böhler M390 'Super Steel' and hand-sharpened to a razor-sharp edge. We are even using a ceramic detent ball for added durability and performance.

What's so great about Titanium?

Titanium is one of the most amazing materials ever created. Used in spaceships, high-end watches, and high-performance race cars. It will never rust, is lightweight, and super strong. The internal spring mechanism for the gate is full stainless steel so you will never have a problem with corrosion. Built to last a lifetime.

Why is it good to have a Böhler M390 'Super Steel' blade?

Simply put, this advanced steel will stay sharp for a very long time... much longer than your average knife. So you won't have to sharpen it as often. M390 is an expensive metal, but it's worth it, so your knife will be sharp when you need it.

Why use a ceramic detent ball?

The detent ball is part of the 'Frame-Lock' mechanism and is pressed into the 'Lock-Bar' face. This ball rides on the blade when you are opening and closing it. The very hard ceramic ball has a longer life and better feel when opening and closing the blade (more about the 'Frame-Lock' mechanism below).

WHAT IS A FRAME-LOCK?

A 'Frame-Lock' is a time-tested mechanism that securely locks the blade open and also allows a simple one-handed closing of the blade.

Top view of the Pocket Tanto showing how the frame-lock mechanism works.

The 'Lock Bar' is part of the frame of the knife and acts like a spring that falls into place when the blade is opened. This very securely locks the blade in the open position. To close the blade, you simply press on the 'lock bar' to move it out of the way of the blade. The blade can then be closed.

'LOW-PROFILE' CLIP - OPTION

The POCKET TANTO is even easier to carry thanks to the clip option, which allows you to easily attach it to your pocket or bag with the keys hanging nicely below - tucked inside or outside of your pocket.

The Pocket Tanto optional low-profile clip provides many additional carry options.

Below you can see how the recessed areas of the 'Low-Profile' clip are designed to allow your fingers to rest comfortably when flipping the knife open, holding, and using the knife.
